It is that time of year again! There is less sunshine, cooler weather, and…pale skin! (Not that there is anything wrong with this.) However, if you miss that summertime tan that is fading fast, do not worry! Self-tanners have come a long way and the technology is fantastic. There are plenty of wonderful product options out there! I have tried quite a few and here are my favorites and why as well as some tips!
(Please keep in mind this is coming from a girl with very fair skin. I have been nicknamed “Snow White” before when not using any tanning product.)
Sun Self Tanning Lotion Ultra Dark Instant Tint
This product is fantastic for three reasons: 1. It doesn’t have a strange smell. 2. It is not orange-looking at all. 3.It gives a nice, dark, tan quickly.
Body Drench Quick Tan Instant Self-tanning Spray
This product is super simple to use. I recommend exfoliating, drying off thoroughly, and then having someone mist this product on to you from six inches away while you stand in a bathtub/shower. (This makes it a little less messy.) Make sure your helper is misting the product onto you in a horizontal sweeping motion for maximum coverage.
Jergens Natural Glow Medium/Tan
For someone who wants to use a moisturizer every day in order to achieve a natural looking tan, this is perfect! Or, if you are a tan-a-holic, (like I can be) this is the perfect product to use in between applications of the above products. Keep in mind if your a first time self-tanner Jergens offers an even milder version of this lotion.
Mystic Tan Mystic Tan Sunless Spray
If you want the same product the professionals use at your fingertips, this is it! This product is the same as what the Mystic Tan Booths are spraying onto clients in the salon. The only difference is the time involved and this is much less expensive! I recommend applying it in the same manner as the Body Drench Quick Tan Spray.
St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mousse
This is a celebrity favorite, used by both Kim Kardashian and Giuliana Rancic. The price tag is a little more, but it is well worth the price. If you do end up purchasing this product, I recommend buying the kit that contains an application mitt, an exfoliation product, and the mousse.
Time for some Tips..
I have used all of the products above and I know that in order for any of them to be successful, they must be applied correctly! Here are some simple tips to follow.
1. Always, always exfoliate first.
2. Make sure you are completely dry before applying self-tanner.
3. Use an applicator mitt or wear gloves. (Unless you want it to be very obvious that you use self-tanner.
4. Use makeup sponges to apply self tanner to your face, neck, and hands. (This allows for an even application and will ensure that too much product does not get onto your skin.)
5. When applying self-tanner to your face push the product into your hairline. (Otherwise it will appear that you are wearing a mask.-Not Good)
